What really works for creating a quality self-defense arsensal? Here are some thoughts...
1. Be able to run a 500 meters as fast as you can
2. Fight First...Art Second
3. Attributes are Primary...Techniques are Secondary
4. Train with Weapons-all kinds of weapons
5. Understand Distance
6. Understand Environment-terrain, weapons of opportunity...etc
7. Understand Self-Preservation-"THATS WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT"
8. Understand "ENTRY-PRESSURE-TERMINATE"
9. Understand "KILLER INSTINCT"
10. Fight Standing
11. Fight in the Clinch
12. Fight on the Ground: For Conditioning, Striking on/from the Ground, Submissions
13. Flow in and out of all ranges
14. Learn to Move while Fighting, Never Static, "evolve within chaos"
15. Understand targets and "their responses"
16. Get Fit, Get Strong, Run, Bike, Lift, Pull,Push..."Move that body"
17. Seek out others who know more than you do and learn from them!!
18. Explore other options: White light(Surefire-flashlights), Pepper Sray, The Blade...etc
19. Have fun with it! "You are in it for the long haul"!!
Quality Self-Defense or Self-Preservation is not about any one specific art/system. Its about taking what is useful and making it work for you. No one art can provide you with complete answers. Train for high probability. Keep your art/system but leave it behind when it comes down to saving your life your the life of a loved one.
